I'm BACK!!

FINALLY!! I got ameritech to replace my modem (for a lot less than originally quoted). And now I can once again connect to the internet!! Man. It's awful not being connected! Vacation wasn't SO bad because at least I knew I COULD connect if I wanted to.

Did I accomplish anything while I was down?? Well....I finished Marked: A House of Night Novel for review at Curled Up. (As soon as it's published there, I'll post my review here!) I was actually really impressed with it. I should have used it for my first RIP book, but I didn't even think about it at the time. Review is Coming!!

I also almost finished Chance Murphy and the Battle of Morganville. This book was actually sent to me by the author, and I'm just getting around to reading it. I have to say though.....I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Maybe it's because it's about a boy growing up in the 80's and I just love all the pop culture references. Or maybe because it's a good story. Anyway, I hope to finish it today and post a review soon.

Other than that, I guess I just did a lot of housework (which I have been seriously putting off!) and grocery shopping (ditto). I did manage to go to the library and check out about 6 books and request 5 others. Not like I don't have anything to read at my house!

On Friday, we went to see the Halloween remake. First let me say, that I love, love, love Rob Zombie movies!! Both House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects rank right up there with my favorite scary movies!! You can tell that Zombie is a fan of the genre. He really puts a lot of effort and coolness into his movies. And I really enjoyed Halloween. It gave us a lot more information on Michael Myers as a child, and events that led to his becoming a Halloween nightmare. That being said, I just don't think there was enough new stuff to warrant a remake! I mean, why take a classic movie like Halloween and do it again? John Carpenter's movie was phenomenal when it first came out in 1978. It cemented Jamie Lee Curtis as the "Queen of Scream" and it made Michael Myers a household name. Malcolm McDowell as Dr. Loomis was good in the beginning, but he couldn't match the intensity of Donald Pleasance at the end of the movie. Scout Taylor-Compton was cute as Laurie Strode, but she was no Jamie Lee Curtis. But Sheri Moon Zombie had a great performance as Michael's mom, and Daeg Faerch as the young Michael was uber-creepy! He did a fantastic job for one so young.

So, I'm asking the question....what do you do when you can't get connected?? Have a nervous breakdown or do you just go with the flow?? Now...I'm off to catch up on all that I missed!!

ooh, i'm a bit too much of a scaredy-cat when it comes to films like that "thousand corpses", although i do like his persona and love his videos!

i'm a big fan of "halloween". i've watched all of them and really enjoyed them - so am really looking forward to the zombie remake.

the remake is a bit problematic... 'cause i agree, you can't really make a better version, but you feel that zombie certainly has something to give to the franchise. so i'm looking forward to it! :)

JP - House of 1000 Corpses is one of my very favorites. It's seriously violent and twisted, but it was meant to be a tribute to the 60's and 70's B-Horror movies. And that's certainly what it was!!

As far as the remake, I really did like it. That kid creeped me out to no end. BUT Halloween was a classic, and it's really hard to do it any better!

I am glad your computer is up and running again! I was out for a little while too, although for different reasons. It's been hard to stay away.

I hate not being connected. I feel like the world is going on without me. Glad to see you back!

My internet dies all the time! We just have always had bad service, and it doesn't seem to matter what they fix, or move, or rearrange, we get disconnected. We have bought a collection of gadgets over the years, have new wires coming into the house, and even have a power booster. I have just gotten used to sitting here nice as can be and having everything stop working. Even when it is working, if things run slow I get really paranoid and think that things are about to die on me! Lately it has been working fine, but that happens sometimes, and then something will happen and we will lose everything!

I get more aggravated dealing with the hassle of getting reconnected. I won't rest until it's fixed. I can always get online at work and it gives me more reading time. Glad your back online!

Kelly - I would hate to have unreliable internet!! It just about killed me when I couldn't get online!

Kristy - Yeah..I can connect at work too, but with Big Brother watching, it's hard to playing around like I can at home! It's good to be back, though!

Glad you are re-connected.

I was happy to hear you say that Zombie is a fan of 'Halloween' because he really does a nice job with genres that he likes. I loved his remake of the song 'Brick House', even though I'm not usually a fan of his music. He just really got it right, ya know?

I'm embarrassed to say that, although I love horror movies, I've never seen "Halloween", so I might have to watch that before I see this. Glad you liked it though, it bodes well for me.

Hi Stephanie! I've added your link onto my blogroll. :) Glad to hear you've the connection back! I too hate the thought of disconnection. These stuff are just getting too addictive!!! ;)

I've not watched Halloween... though I love horror movies! And I think some of the Japanese horror movies are quite creepy too.

Happy you were able to reconnect. I find not being able to connect to the internet extremely frustrating, and I do not go with the flow...and it's also scary to me how much I rely on all these technologies I barely understand! Anyhoo, glad you're back!

I don't know if you remember but my quote at Oprah used to be "A clean house is a sign of a broken computer!"

Welcome back! I missed you. I think fear of being cut off from the Internet was my main reason for getting a laptop. This way I can connect via wifi if for whatever reason I can't connect at home. I hate being cut off (and maybe that's one of the reasons that M.T. Anderson's Feed resonated so much for me!).

well i do read more when my computer is down for any reason.. more tv too.. and yes more cleaning... but none of it is without my stomach churning and not sleeping well because my computer is down! I think though it's a panic mode because, due to money, I know I can't get it fixed quick enough! sigh..

and you didn't get nightmares from house of a 1000 corpses...!

Kookie - If you are a fan of horror movies, you HAVE to watch the original! Yes, Rob Zombie does a great job when he loves something....and horror movies are a big love of his! It's still a slasher movie...just a slicker, cooler slasher movie, with a plot!

Melody - Thanks! After perusing your blog, I'm definitely adding you to my roll too! I love the Japanese horror movies, although when they are remade in the US, they never seem as good. Except for The Ring, which I thought was really good!!

Gentle Reader - Thanks!! I know what you mean about technology!! You should have seen me on the phone for HOURS with tech support trying to get the issue resolved!

Marg - That is probably the best quote EVER!!

Darla - my son wants me to get a laptop, but I just can't seem to make the move!! But being cut-off sucks!!

Deslily - I just felt like I NEEDED to check my email and my blog! How sad is that??

JP - Very few movies give me nightmares anymore!! I guess I'm immune!

I've only had that happen once, when we moved and couldn't get our cable modem for a week. I just used the public library computers. I think it helped to know exactly when it would end, you know? Glad to see you back!

:D So glad you're back Steph! I missed ya. I hate being away from the internet..it's really sad how much we come to rely on it :p

I LOVED the new Halloween! It was a perfect storm for me. The Halloween movies are my favorites of the "classic slasher films" especially 1 & 2...I liked 4 & 5 as well, but after that, I could take them or leave them. Since that era of horror movies, no one else has really done it for me until Rob Zombie came around as a director with House of 1000 Corpses and The Devils Rejects. Like you, me and Megan LOVE those movies. So when I heard that he was doing Halloween, I knew I'd love it...and I did :)

Glad to have you back :)
