Booking Through Thursday - And the Nominee is.....

What fiction book (or books) would you nominate to be the best new book published in 2007?(Older books that you read for the first time in 2007 don’t count.)

What non-fiction book (or books) would you nominate to be the best new book published in 2007?(Older books that you read for the first time in 2007 don’t count.)

And, do “best of” lists influence your reading?

Truth be told, I'm usually a little behind when it comes to new books. I always have a list that I want to read, but by the time I get to them, it's usually after the year they are published!! There are a few exceptions to the rule. I did read Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult when it came out. It was good. Not as great as some of her other books.

The best 2 new series that I started this year are the House of Night Books by P.C. Cast (the last one was published this year - Betrayed - and it was fantastic!!) and the Gardella Vampire Series by Colleen Gleason. Book number 2, Rises the Night, was wonderful.

I think that "Best of" lists do influence my reading. If for nothing else, it's just another list of books that sound interesting to me!! I always read them and add a few to my reading list for NEXT year!!

I take forever to get around to them too. Someday I'm going to read Gleason's books.

My TBR stack is taller than I am!

I haven't read much from this year either. I do want to read PC Cast and Colleen Gleason, hopefully next year.

I love those best of reading lists but I'm always years behind it seems. Ah well, at least I'll never run out of books to read - hee, hee.

I am yet to read any Gleason. FRankly I don't read that genre. May be I should.

Here is my list.

Best of lists don't influence my reading as far as making me want to read it BECAUSE it was on a best of list...it does however influence me in that if something looks interesting I may go out and read about it and end up picking it up.

Baltimore, Or The Steadfast Tin Soldier and the Vampire by Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden and Mary Modern by Camille DeAngelis would probably be two of my top picks for books I've read that were published this year.

Same here. I am always behind. Maybe we should have nominated 2006 books!

I too am always way behind when it comes to reading new books.

@jaimie: We should be allowed to nominate books from the last five years if my list has to make any sense. ;-)

I've just realised I'm usually waiting for books to come out in paperback so I almost never read anything the year it's published! I'm with nithin on timescale.

I would have had to skip this question. I rarely get to a book as soon as it's published either. I'm doing good sometimes if it's only 5 years old. There's just so many things out there worth reading!

I have the same thoughts as you, Stephanie! And that's always this saying: Too many books, too little time! LOL.

Most of my 2007 books were books I received for free to review. I think I only actually bought 4 myself and then 1 was borrowed. I do buy a lot of books though. I just haven't read them yet. :-)

I'm always behind when it comes to new books too. If I were to make a best of the year list, it'd be the best books that I discovered this year, not the ones that were published.

I'm with you when it comes to "best of" lists. They influence me in the sense that they call my attention to certain books.

Maybe "the best of".. should actually be "the best of What I Read This Year"..not necessarily what was put out in print.. you can always find "best selling" lists to see how many read what book"

I note the Gardella Vampires, because I'm really into vampire stories at the moment;o)

Damn. I meant "Have you read them?" as in the books, not my stupid posts. Tired. Wine.

You're the same as me, I'm generally behind for newer books as well. Not the best for reviewing I guess, but there are many older ones I delve into too.
