Booking Through Thursday - Catalog

Do you use any of the online book-cataloguing sites, like Library Thing or Shelfari? Why or why not? (Or . . . do you have absolutely no idea what I’m talking to?? (grin))

If not an online catalog, do you use any other method to catalog your book collection? Excel spreadsheets, index cards, a notebook, anything?

Yes, I use Library Thing to catalog my books. Trouble is, I have so many books, I just haven't found the time to get them all listed!! It's on the list of things "To Be Done Someday!" I do like the idea of having all my books listed. And I like to add books that I have read. You know. The ones I've checked out from the library. I even added a few reviews. But as with most things in my life, I just haven't found the time to do it all.

I do like the Early Reviewers section!! I even got a copy of Dreamers of the Day by Mary Doria Russell from Random House. Hopefully, I will get it soon!! If you'd like to see the books I have listed, you can check me out under my username Stephlee_77. Add me to your friends!

Happy Thursday!!

Hi Stephanie,

Oh.. I hope that I will have a ton of books like you do someday. I would like to have an entire room in my home devoted to nothing but books. I know, we all have all these things we want to do but never any time to do them! Blessings...

Lori - I wish I had more space to be honest. One of these days, when I win the lottery (ha!) I want to have a room that's just mine. Filled with bookshelves!

As it is now, I have a room with bookshelves, but there aren't enough to hold all my books. Besides, I have to share with the kids. So unfair!

Same here with the so many books. It is very hard to keep up with the purchasing!

You have quite a few on there already!

I've used Library Thing, Shelfari, and now GoodReads. GoodReads is by far the easiest to add to, with an unlimited amount of space for free. But like you, there's no way I'll ever be able to add all my books to it. Unless I set aside an entire weekend to do so.. but what purpose would that serve?
I'll just stick to my random organization.

Jaimie - I was hoping that by listing the ones I have, I'd stop buying so many. Yeah. That really worked!!

Chris - I have a little over 300, but I still have so many more. It's scary to know exactly how many books I have!

Angela - I'm all for that random organization thing!

I started using those programs online too but I had the same problem, I had so many that I just had trouble getting them listed so I gave up.

I have a library thing account and I cataloged some of my books but then it got to be just another thing I had to do and I haven't entered any in a long time. I should keep better track, but I don't. Maybe next year.

I didn't update all my books either, Stephanie! But nowadays I make a habit of updating them whenever I buy new books, hehe...

You can do what I did and spend an entire vacation adding them in. :-) I was too cheap to buy the scanner. Or more like impatient because I didn't want to have to wait for it to come in the mail.

I really like LT and the Early Reviewer program also.

That one of the problem with me too - there so many books that I just have to find the times to list them all *grin*. I hope you'll be able to managed to list them all ...someday :)

Thanks for visiting my blog and Happy BTT!

I used Library Thing until I exceeded the number of books I could list for free. That was earlier in the year, and since then I've been too cheap or too broke (take your pick :) to pay for a Library Thing account. I really should though. I'd like to keep better track of what I actually do have on my shelves these days.

I started doing Shelfari, but honestly got a little bored with it. :) I keep all my books cataloged in a Microsoft Access file because I am a GIANT nerd! Ha ha! I've enjoyed catching up on your blog--I'm definitely NOT telling hubby that you liked I Am Legend...don't really want to see it even if your write-up was pretty positive!
