Friday Movie Extravaganza!

OK...so this is my last free Friday before I start the Red Cross. Should I have spent it cleaning my house, Christmas Shopping, baking for the holidays, or maybe wrapping presents?? You bet. Did I? Not a chance!!

I am Legend started and Mike and I went to the first showing of the day!! I heart Will Smith, and would go see just about anything with him in it. Did I like the movie? Yep. Sure did. Mike thought there wasn't enough action. And true, it was a lot of psychological "stuff". Personally, I think that made it a BETTER movie. The things you don't see are usually way scarier than what's on screen. (of course, the night seekers were pretty damn freaky!)

As much as I love Will Smith, he was actually my biggest problem with movie. Robert Neville is a brilliant scientist, a virologist. And as much as I like Will Smith, I personally see him as more of a "action" figure. He was FANTASTIC in the action scenes...and even the scenes where you can tell he was just about to crack. But him as a scientist just didn't do it for me. Did it detract from my enjoyment? Not really. Just made it a little more unbelievable. (like a movie about zombie/vamps that are all that's left in a world that was affected by a virus that killed off almost the entire Earth's population is BELIEVABLE!!) Good movie in my book. Well worth at least a B+!!

After that we went home and decided since we were in a movie watching frame of mind, let's check out one of our Netflix movies:

I've never been a HUGE Matt Damon fan. I like him ok. But he is really a fantastic Jason Bourne!! Since Mike was lacking on the action in I am Legend, we put on The Bourne Ultimatum. Well...the movie certainly wasn't lacking for action. From the opening sequence, it was a non-stop roller coaster. And truth be told, I thought it was definitely the best movie of the 3. I really enjoyed it!!

Finally....in the spirit of the holidays, we did watch a Classic:

It's a Wonderful Life is just about the greatest Christmas movie...ever!! (OK...there IS Christmas Vacation!) I just love this movie!! So, while I was making Chocolate Chip cookies for the kids, we watched it. There is just something about Jimmie Stewart that makes me want to hug people. To see him go from wide-eyed dreamer to a man utterly without hope....to someone that has EVERYTHING to live for is just so touching!! And yes, I cried. I always do. It's part of the Christmas tradition for me!

So....I didn't get anything accomplished yesterday, but I did watch some fantastic films!! So, I'll leave you all with this thought:

"Remember that no man is a failure who has friends".

We very rarely, if ever, go to see new movies but I'm really wanting to go see I am Legend.

Ahhh, It's a Wonderful Life. Brings back memories. It used to be such a treat when that came on TV each year when I was a kid. But it's been a few years since I've seen now.

Nicola - We usually pick and choose movies to go see in the theater. It's so expensive anymore. But some are just meant to be seen on the Big Screen!! I think National Treasure will be another one we go see!! I heart It's a Wondeful Life!! I've seen it so many times I can't count!!

Oh, I want to see National Treasure Book of Secrets too!!! We actually did see the first one at the theatre and you are right, movies like that are meant to be seen on the big screen. The first National Treasure was so good!

I watched a cute cartoon called It's a Wonderful Tiny Toons Christmas Special the other day online. This website has it up: http://thepchb.blogspot.com/

I want to see I Am Legend, but my husband isn't so sure. He's not really into those types of movies. We did see The Golden Compass today, however.

I love the Bourne movies! Ultimatum is on my Christmas list this year. :-)

We just got back from "I am Legend" and I'm really surprised you liked it as much as you did. You read the book didn't you?

I was highly distressed that they didn't stick to the book at all! The ending! ACK...the ending.

I'll be posting my review on Monday, and I guess it's fair to warn you that it won't be pretty. :)

I might need to watch 'It's a Wonderful Life' again just to recover from the agony of watching "I Am Legend". :P

Sounds like a wonderful time! I'm glad to hear that I Am Legend isn't action heavy as the story it is based on isn't either. That is good news.

Bourne Ultimatum is a wonderful third act to this trilogy. I enjoyed it so much at the theatre and I believe it will be under the tree at Christmas and I will enjoy it then as well.

We should hopefully be getting in the rest of our Christmas movies this next week, including a favorite, Its a Wonderful Life.

i'm really glad to hear you enjoyed "i am legend"! i love love the book and was hoping the film was good. i'm also glad that the film is more psychological, 'cause thats how the book is.

i share your reservations about smith, though... he just doesn't seem like neville. but since i have still to watch it, i'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and suspend my doubts.

oooh! i can't wait to see the "bourne ultimatum"! i'm glad you enjoyed it. i loved the first two!

and "wonderful life"... i still haven't actually seen it...!!

Kookie - I DID read this book, although it was WAY back in like Jr. High/High School. Let's just say that was a LOT of years ago!! I knew this movie was no way going to be as good as the book, so I pretty much didn't try to compare it.

BUT....you are right about the ending. Didn't really care much for that.

Carl - I'm pretty sure my husband is going to get the Bourne Trilogy box-set for Christmas. Like I said, the first two were good. They didn't rock my world or anything like that. But I really enjoyed the 3rd.

JP - I love Will Smith. I really do. But he just isn't a brilliant scientist. As good of an actor as he is, I just didn't FEEL it!!

Ack!! You've NEVER seen It's a Wonderful Life??? Go right now, and rent it!! And just try not to cry!

JP!?!?!?! It's a Wonderful Life is the uber-classic Christmas film. Your nostalgic Christmas education is extremely lacking. Remedy that! ;)

The Bourne movies did rock my world. I think they are among the best of the 'new' style of action flick. I consider Casino Royale of the same ilk. They are different than, say, the Die Hard movies. Not better, just a different style, and I love 'em.

Thanks for the I Am Legend review!!! I was wondering how it would be.

oh dear... you're both right... i should watch it! hopefully this christmas!

Will Smith as a scientist? I haven't seen the movie yet and already something doesn't add up... Type-casting has often proved to be a hindrance to some very talented actors' careers, but in some case it is simply necessary, isn't it?

Oh, yeah, I love the Bourne movies and that last one is really something. I felt like I had to take a deep breath when it ended because I'd spent so much time tensed up on the edge of my seat (and probably not taking in a lot of oxygen).

My husband wouldn't stop on It's a Wonderful Life, the one day we turned a TV on in our hotel. Grrrr.

I just watched It's a wonderful life last night. One of the best movies ever. It's so heartwarming and James Stewart was a phenomenal actor (and I hear a great man in person)
