Wahoo!!

Well....I knew it would happen one of these days. After many months of looking for a new job, I got the call yesterday. The American Red Cross gave me an offer, and I jumped on the chance!!

After spending the last 13 years of my life with a fortune 500 company that treats it's employees like crap and works them to the bone, I think I finally found a place I can respect. Not only are the benefits good (although the pay IS less), it's a company that's sole purpose is to help others. The job is administrative (not programming), and the hours are exactly what I was looking for. In the end, I'll be able to spend more time with my family, even if I still keep up the part-time gig on the weekends.

I don't start until the 17th (pending the results of my drug test...man I hope being completely hopped up on caffeine isn't a BAD thing!) So....2 weeks to get stuff ready for the holidays, and off to work I go!!

Maybe things are starting to look up a little for me!! I was beginning to wonder.

Congratulations Steph! I'm so happy for you :) I honestly can't tell you how happy I am to hear this...It gives me some hope! One door closes and another opens. They're lucky to have you! The Red Cross did so much for us after Katrina and they'll remain one of the few sources down here that is offering grants to people in New Orleans for mental health counseling, so hopefully we can get the kids to get those grants and get some more counseling after we're gone.

Kelly - Thanks!!

Chris - Thank you. I felt so BAD today when I read your blog. It just didn't seem like I should be so happy about my job then. But I know you will find something else.

I'm so happy about the idea of The Red Cross too. At my interview, they asked why I wanted to come to the Red Cross. I told them that after years of working for a company who's main interest was working for their stockholders, I really wanted to work for a company that makes a difference in the world. And that's honestly how I feel.

Tanabata - Thanks!!

Congratulations Stephanie! I've worked in not-for-profiit for years, and I do have to admit that one of the things that is great is that you do feel as though you are part of a team of people that are out there making a difference!

Wow! Congratulations! Speaking from experience, my hubby lost a job that worked him to the bone and treated him like crap. He now has a lower paying job with a smaller family-oriented company and SO much more time with the family. As the MC commercial says...PRICELESS!

Congratulations, Stephanie! That is such great news. It sounds like this will be a great opportunity for you. Being happy with what you do and feeling good about it, can make all the difference. :-)

Congratulations on the new job, Sephanie. I know exactly the feeling since I was out of work for seven months this year after being laid off by a company I worked for for almost 29 years. I've been working again for five weeks...and it's actually fun. I hadn't realized how miserable the old job was making me and how terribly we were treated there.

Life is much better for me, and I suspect that you will find the same thing. I'm happy for you.

Congratulations! Sometimes we "stick to the devil we know" rather than venture out and find what we love. I hope this will be a "I love my job" situation for you!

Congratulations, that is so great! Welcome to the helping profession. In many ways it can be a thankless job, but it sure feels good during those moments when you get a chance to really make a difference in someone's life.

Congratulations Stephanie! I too used to work for a large corporation (and have since become a stay-at-home mom) but for sure I do not want to return to that type of working environment.
