Of Read-a-Thons, Work and a Little Sadness.....

Today was the Dewey-inspired 24-Hour Read-a-Thon. (OK, technically, it was yesterday since it's after midnight...but a few hardcore readers are still going!) I SO want to join in this one day, but circumstances have never let me!! The fall is right in the middle of my son's football season. All games are on Saturdays, and usually take up a majority of the day, since it's a travel league. Today, my daughter had a soccer game, and I was scheduled to work....like 15 hours. So while all of you were reading, I was having a Work-a-thon of sorts!

Since I wasn't able to participate, I did want to do a little shout-out to all of you that signed up, and are still reading!! I tried to do a little cheerleading earlier. I'm not really good at it though! I've tried to hit some blogs and leave them comments....and I've also tried to follow some the action on Twitter.

Anyway....Kudos to all of you that participated in one way or another today!! And if you are still readintg, KEEP IT UP!! It's sad that Dewey isn't with us anymore, but a great thing that her legacy has lived on!!

=============================================

On a final note, I will probably be off-line for a few days. You all know my grandmother has been sick. Well, she passed away late last night. As sad as I am, I truly know she is in a better place, where there is no sickness or pain. I'll be heading out of town for the visitation, funeral, and family gatherings. Hope to be back on Wenesday morning. I'll try to catch up with all of you then.

Trish - Thanks! Honestly, we have been expecting it for awhile now. Doesn't make it any easier, but I really think she wanted it this way. When she found out she was sick, she refused treatment. The next 3 or 4 days are going to be rough -- visitation, family gatherings, funeral...I'm not looking forward to it at all.

Debi & Chris - Thank you guys...so much. You really have no idea how much all your friendship means to me. I just keep telling myself, she really is better off. Not sick or in pain any longer.

I am so sorry to hear about your Grandmother! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

And that is so great that you were a read-a-thon cheerleader for a little bit! Even though you couldn't "officially" participate you still found a way to get involved! So nice of you!

I am sorry to hear that Stephanie.

I tried to fit the read-a-thon in around sporting fixtures and other life factors, but I don't think it was that successful really. Never mind. Maybe next time will be better.

My condolences. My mother passed away recently.When I heard that she was dying, I flew back to England to be with her and was driving from Heathrow airport to be with her when I got the call that I was just too late.

The one good thing was that the funeral brought the family all together for the first time in years.

Take your time.

I am very sorry to hear about your grandmother! Having just gone through the same thing like two weeks ago, it is fresh in my mind how stressful and sad it can be, but at the same time you know that it was the right thing!

I am so sorry for your loss. I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Sorry you are having to work so much of late and am also sorry that work/life hasn't allowed you to participate in the read-a-thon. I certainly understand that. It was sheer luck that I was able to do it this time, my first.

We all appreciate your thoughts and your cheerleading!
