I'm Still Raging!

They still have it! The concert was Friday night, and I'm still trying to recover! Utterly fantastic! I've been to see many, MANY concerts in my life. Small shows and huge stadium concerts and festivals. But the Rage Against the Machine concert had to rank right at the top! The scary thing is, I'm really feeling my age right about now. My ears are still ringing, I think I might possibly have whiplash, I have no voice at all (it's completely GONE), and I'm sore as hell.....but it was worth it.

The show was at Alpine Valley in East Troy, Wisconsin. We left about 1, to make sure we didn't have any problems. And it's a good thing too. Alpine Valley is possibly the worst place EVER for a concert. There is one road in and one road out. All well and good, except there were 30,000 others going to the show! We saw license plates from 10 different states! It was raining, and we got soaked and extremely muddy. You have to park in fields. Tons of people got stuck. Then you have to walk over the hills and far away. It was at least a mile hike each way....and that was just to the gates. At least we had pavilion seats, because the lawn seats were mud. I think I still have mud in my hair, my Doc's are trashed and beer was $8 a cup! But it was worth it! Our seats were in the 7th row! Queens of the Stone Age opened and they were great. But when Rage hit the stage, it was wild for almost 2 hours! You would believe it's been 7 years since they played together. Tom Morello is still a genius and Zach de la Rocha is still incredible.

So....I got my wish. I got to see the one band that I missed when they were around the first time. We got home at 5 am....tired, muddy, wet and sore. But I went to sleep with a smile on my face!

The world is my expense
The cost of my desire
Jesus blessed me with its future
And I protect it with fire
So raise your fists and march around
Don't dare take what you need
I'll jail and bury those committed
And smother the rest in greed
Crawl with me into tomorrow
Or i'll drag you to your grave
I'm deep inside your children
They'll betray you in my name
Hey!
Hey!
Sleep now in the fire

I'm glad to hear you had such a good time. I know what you mean about feeling your age - the same happens to me these days after certain shows. Midway through them I find myself thinking, "I'm getting too old for this", but of course I don't want to stop going.

Chris - It was INCREDIBLE! We had a great time! They are playing the Voodoo Festival in NO this year! Go, if you get the chance!

Valentina - Not back togehter that I know of. They got together to play Coachella in CA, this year, and scheduled to play 3 or 4 festivals. Alpine Valley, as far as I know, is the only solo show they are doing. I would LOVE to see them back together again!

Nymeth - It's funny. In my early 20's I could have done that...and then went to work without any sleep. Now, I'm feeling the affects of that night. Still doesn't stop me from going. Not nearly as much as I used to though. This year, I hope to see NIN again....and Ministry is releasing one final album. They are my absolute favorites. And I've seen them live 7 times. Will have to go to just one more show if I can!

RATM are one of the bands I sadly missed the first time around as well. I will check if they are due to come to the UK at all. I am so jealous, they are an amazing band. Their first album is a classic.

You may or may not be surprised to learn that there are many concert venues with only one road in and one road out. I'm not sure why this is, but it's pretty ridiculous.

Rhinoa - I never got to see them before they broke up. I couldn't believe it when I heard they were at least doing a few reunion shows, and there was one within 4 hours of me!! They were incredible! It's a toss-up to me which is better. The first or The Battle of Los Angeles!

JP - The were so good!! They played it all!! They opened with Tesify, Guerilla Radio, and Sleep Now in the Fire. Killing in the Name and Regades of Funk were the last few songs. What a show!!

Matt - Yeah, I know. But with 30,000 people coming in and out, it was an utter nightmare! There has to be a better way!

I love RAtM! And I've been feeling my age at concerts for the last 4 years. Last time I even took earplugs so I could hear the next day! And best of all, it didn't even interfere with the music. LOL

How lucky you are. I have one Rage CD, Live at the Olympic...

By the way, I'm still figuring out which dystopias to read for the challenge. I love the idea because I've been reading dystopias since high school. It may be my favorite SF genre.

Hi Steph, my wife was window shopping with me one day and got very excited about a Zach De La Rocha biography. She ummd and ahhhd but eventually decided we couldn't afford it at the time and she'd buy it later. That was around 6-7 years ago and I still haven't managed to sight another copy! Have you heard of it or possibley read it? I don't even know the title unfortunately and since I can't find any mention of it anywhere on the net I fear it may have been an unauthorized bio. Would love to learn of it or any other similar.....Thanks (love the site - best of luck)
