Letters!! We've Got Letters! Booking Through Thursday

Have you ever written an author a fan letter?
I can honestly say I've never written a "fan" letter to anyone, even authors!! Now, I DID email a couple of authors.

Did you get an answer?
Yes, I did!! When my bookclub was reading My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult, we started questioning some of the circumstances. Why did the author write this...and why did she decide to do that. So....I emailed her and asked!! She was kind enough to reply the same day! We emailed a couple of times. Nice lady!

I also emailed John Shors when our bookclub was discussing Beneath a Marble Sky. He was also kind enough to answer all of our questions.

Colleen Gleason is an author that I have just recently become acquainted with via the web. I read her blog alot: For all the World to See. Another super person! READ her Gardella Vampire Chronicles, if you want to have some fun!

Did it spark a conversation? A meeting?
The only author I have met personally was Laurell K. Hamilton at a book signing in Springfield. I hope to do more of those when I can!

(And, sure, I suppose that e-mails DO count . . . but I’d say no to something like a message board on which the author happens to participate.)

Wow! You had an email conversation with Jodi Picoult. How exciting when the high profile authors write back!

That's the first thing that came to my mind - Stephanie has emailed Jodi Picoult!

Wow, like the authors, I am a bit in awe of the fact that you've traded emails with Jodi Picoult! Especially that you asked questions for your book club and she answered you, right back. That's so incredibly cool! :)

Same here, I've never actually sent a letter, but I've talked with a few over email including Colleen Gleason, Orson Scott Card, and Brandon Mull...all were incredibly nice people that I hope to meet in person one day! Authors are so nice :)

Same here. I haven't actually written any letters. Only once I emailed Bonnie to thank her for sending two copies of her books and we've been emailing each other since. She's a very nice lady too.

It's always fantastic to hear back from them. Wonderful, isn't it? *GRIN*

I continued to email back and forth with Jodi Picoult for years, very sporadically. She always wrote back.

Also, I once wrote to Catherine Marshall ... about 1965 ... and mailed it. My only fan mail by MAIL, but I still have the carefully typed letter she sent back to me. Yes, that was very much PRE-computer days ... lol.

By the way, I have awarded you a thoughtful blogger award on my Words from a Wordsmith page ... please drop by when you get a chance, and pick it up. May you long continue to blog thoughtfully!

P.S. Happy belated birthday to Bella!

I've seen quite a few replies to this weeks BTT, and so far nobody has reported a negative experience - it seems that authors really are very nice. It's great when even very famous ones like Jodi Picoult take the time to write back.

I've never e-mailed an author, but I once asked Neil Gaiman a question about writing through his blog's FAQ and he was gracious enough to reply. His response was very helpful and, needless to say, made me extremely happy.

Isn't it a wonderful experience? Jodi Picoult is one of the authors I've written to several times in my mind, but never in actuality.

I did the ultimate - a newspaper reporter, I got to interview Jancee Dunn a month or two after reading "But Enough About Me." I was a total drip, breaking all the reporter rules she talks about in her memoir of being a Rolling Stone journalist. And she was amazing :) She's just as real as her memoir.
