The Sunday Salon - July in Review

The Sunday Salon.comCan you believe July is over already?? This summer is slipping by so fast, I can hardly believe it. This month we survived basketball camp, the end of softball season, a softball tournament, and Bella's birthday. Now, it's time to get ready for school. Am I the only weird one that loves shopping for school supplies?? I can't help myself....I just love to. On top of that, Chad has his last JFL season starting. This year, he will be a Senior (in JFL terms anyway.) My little wide receiver/line backer packed on over 20 lbs and 5 inches since last year! Practice starts tomorrow.

Now...my reading July in review. I pale in comparison to most of you, I realize that. But for me, I've had a decent month reading. I read 7 books, 2 of which were graphic novels. 2144 pages in all. Not too bad.

Although I loved a couple of the books I read, I'd have to say Catching Fire was my favorite read this month. It's hard to beat that one!!

I bought 8 books, and checked out more than I can count from the library. I think my total check-outs is still somewhere in the 30's!! Every time I take back a bunch, I always end up with more in my hands. Again, I just can't help myself. I also joined 3 challenges: The Canadian Book Challenge 3, The Harry Potter Reading Challenge, and the GLBT Reading Challenge (or The Challenge That Dare Not Speak it's Name!)

For August, I have 1 scheduled Book Tour: Everything Sucks: Losing My Mind and Finding Myself in a High School Quest for Cool by Hannah Friedman. It's a YA Memoir and looks fantastic. I'm also starting the Discworld Series with the Tiffany Aching trilogy. There are also a couple other challenges I'm sure I'll be joining....especially the Japanese Reading Challenge. I'm also challenging myself to post more often this month. I've been rather lax, sometimes taking long breaks. But starting this month, I'm vowing to do better!

I think that's it for July. Time to put it in the books. Happy Sunday and Happy Reading!!!

Busy month, and still look at all that reading you got done. I'm impressed. (Okay, and jealous, too.) Have a fantastic August, Stephanie!

But ewww...shopping for school supplies. Ugh. Not anywhere near ready to go there yet.

I think you had a great month, and I'm so happy you signed up for GLBT! :)

Once again, I can't wait for Catching Fire!

I don't think I'm quite ready for August yet. LOL Sounds like you had a really busy month, Stephanie.

As far as I'm concerned, you had a wonderful reading month. :-) You and I are about in the same league this round.

I hope you have a wonderful week!

Wow! You had an awesome month Steph :D You read so many great books!

Um, yeah, I totally love shopping for school supplies :p In fact, I offered to take my little brother shopping for his if he needed me to. I'm getting ready to open up my private practice for counseling and plan on seeing mostly children and adolescents so I've been using that as an excuse to go school supply shopping lately. I just love paper and pens and crayons and construction paper...great stuff!

And I hear you on Chad getting bigger! I swear, my little brother (he's 14) has shot up since school ended last year! He's almost as tall as me now and his voice is about the same pitch too! Crazy how quick they grow up...

What busy-ness! And still managed to read some great books. I love school shopping! What is it about stationery that's just so soothing and happy-making?

I always loved back to school shopping too. I may like it less when it's my kid and I have to buy all the stuff, but I always liked having new notebooks, pens, and other fun stuff. And by this time I was bored of summer, so I was ready for school again.

I can't believe it, no...and it's not just the summer, it's the whole year. In a month it will be SEPTEMBER. How can that be?

Shopping for school supplies was always my favourite part of going back to school. You're not alone :P

It was a good and busy month, with wonderful weather but precious little reading accomplished (you did much better than I did!). As much as I actually enjoyed July (something that is rare for me since I hate summers), I'm glad it is in the books. That means its much closer to true autumn and R.I.P. reading!

You have had a great month! I haven't read any of your july books, but I do have Tender Morels to read and review. I also saw that you had The Rising by Brian Keene on your End of World Challenge. I have read it and thought it was really good (but then I do love my horror books). Also False Memory on your LibraryThing is good too, love Dean Koontz! :)

I am impressed with how much you read during a busy month! I read 7 during a hardly-busy month. Sheesh.

Shopping for school supplies...luckily as a pre-k teacher I don't have to ask my parents to purchase school supplies. I'd hate to do that to anyone in this economy! I saw on the news yesterday that over half the families in our city can't afford their children's school supplies if they want to eat. :(

I know, we have to buy school supplies before the end of the month when school starts!! I can't believe it's down to a matter of a few weeks now. My daughter is loving summer and wants it to go on and on.....I'm like many of your commentators though, I couldn't wait for school to start, every year!!! So I confess to a little smile every time I go shopping for new school supplies for my kids!!

And that you got that many books read, with that many events - excellent, Stephanie!!!
