Yes, I'm an Idiot!! ANOTHER Challenge!!

Yes, I know. How dumb can I be?? Another challenge??? Sheesh. But I keep seeing this one ALL over the blog world!! And it's fantasy-related. So, I just HAD to!!

Foxy Writer is hosting the Mythopoeic Challenge. Choose seven books from the list of Mythopoeic Award winners (or nominees list). It runs all of 2008. Sounds like fun!!

Here is the list I have chosen:

  • Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman (come on....did you really think I would take on a challenge like this and NOT throw in somem Gaiman?)
  • Doomsday Book by Connie Willis
  • The Song of Rhiannon by Evangeline Walton
  • Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay
  • Inkheart by Cornelia Funke
  • The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale
  • Paladin of Souls by Lois McMaster Bujold

Have you read any of these books?? Questions or comments??

Sorry, I've been absent the last few days. I'm trying to make a habit of posting at LEAST 5 times a week. But I've worked both jobs the last 2 days straight. 13 hours yesterday...and 12 1/2 today. Man....I'm dead. I'm heading up to bed right now. I have to be in early tomorrow. Mike is taking me out to dinner and a movie for my birthday tomorrow night. I'm finally getting to see Sweeney Todd!!

Later!!

Damn Steph! 25 1/2 hours in 2 days??? That's nuts. Don't kill yourself over there! Happy early Birthday! I'm so glad you're getting to see Sweeney Todd :) You're going to love it. And keep joining those challenges!! You make me feel better everytime you join another one ;) Neverwhere is awesome. In my opinion it's the closest to American Gods that Gaiman has wrote.

Stephanie,
I bought Inkheart for my sister for Christmas two years ago, I don't know maybe three...anyway she absolutely loved it! She bought and read the sequel not too long ago. I even heard her mention that she saw somewhere that there is a movie coming out. I will definitely read it after I pry it out of my mom's, dad's, and other sisters' hands lol!!
By the way, I may just have to add this to my many challenges!!

Happy birthday!

I did so well staying away from challenges last year...this year it's the opposite! I have two more posts in draft to join challenges already!

Happy Birthday! (I hope you get to finally REST on your b'day!)

Ummm, I've read Inkheart and Inkspell.. I found them excellent, excellent, excellent! And it's true the movie comes out in March starring Brendon Frazier, and has Helen Mirrin in it too! If you DON'T like that book I will be surprised!

Goose Girl is awesome.

I have Inkheart and Inkspell on my list of books that I need to read sometime in the next year. They've been patiently waiting for a year at least. :)

Rest well and then party.

Happy birthday, Stephanie! Enjoy your day, and enjoy Sweeney Todd!

You are not crazy. This challenge is just too good to resist! The only book on your list that I've read is the wonderful Neverwhere, but I've read great things about the others too.

First of all...happy, happy, happy birthday!!! Hope you have a fun, relaxing, exciting time! I'd say you more than deserve a little fun about now!

I would have been willing to bet my whole TBR pile that you couldn't resist this challenge! The only one of those books I've read is Inkheart...and it is sooooo good! It was really sort of my introduction to fantasy, so that may be part of the reason I love it so much. But I do love it!

Happy birthday (a couple days early)! I know you are going to love Sweeney Todd as much as I did. I can't wait to hear what you thought.

Another great list! Neverwhere is fantastic. I'll be reading Doomsday Book soon myself so it will be interesting to compare notes at some point.

Happy Birthday! I hope you enjoy Sweeney Todd. One thing or another keeps interfering with my ability to see it. Hopefully next week.

Oh, I envy so much your ability to join (and actually complete) all those challenges. You're crazy but oh how I wish I was crazy like you. :)

You've been working too much - go have fun watching Sweeney Todd and have a fantastic birthday celebration!
And, yes, you are a bit crazy to take on another challenge but it's just a sign of the book madness we all have! Enjoy it :)

Happy Birthday, Stephanie! I'm *happy* to see you join this challenge. I am part of it as well. I'm hoping to get to Neverwhere soon myself. (If only the library's copy would stay on the shelves long enough for me to get there!) Inkheart and Goose Girl are both great books. And The Goose Girl and the Gaiman are eligible for the Cardathon as well if you want to cross-post.

Hey, Stephanie - I just wanted to let you know we watched Stardust tonight, and we all loved it! (I knew I would, of course - but the kids and hub did, too.) Thanks for your two cents - I'd say I wish I'd taken them to see it in the theater, but it was actually good to be able to pause the DVD for my younger one so she could ask questions when she didn't understand what was going on. I particularly loved the ghosts! Too funny.

I've decided that I don't feel bad for joining challenges, and I'm not going to make myself feel bad for not finishing. (At least right now). Have fun with this one! I haven't heard anything about any of the books, but I know how much you've come to love Gaiman!

I hope you are able to get some much needed rest this weekend--and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! :)

I thoroughly enjoyed Inkheart and will move to Inkspell eventually. I've seen only glowing reports about Goose Girl (the first one I saw was over a year ago by Booklogged). I look forward to your reviews!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone. Yes, I know I've been working too much. But I hate to give up the hours when they are offered. Unfortunately, it was all in the same week.

I'm working tonight, but I have all day off tomorrow for my birthday!! They kids are planning something.

And you are all right. This was definitely a challenge I couldn't pass up!!

This is a great challenge, I would love to read all the winners someday. Neverwhere was really good, I hope you like it. The Wong of Rhiannon is a lovely re-telling of a section of the Welsh Mabinogian mythology which I really enjoyed a few years ago and hope to read the whole series. I want to read Inkheart and The Goose Girl this year too.

Neverwhere is great - and it makes going on the Tube in London into a whole new experience!
I liked Domesday Book, but it took me a while to get into it - I kept getting annoyed at the Oxford academics, who seemed to know a lot about the medieval period one minute, and almost nothing the next. The flu epidemic in the future/present was very well done, though, and once Kivrin got settled in the medieval household, so was that.

Paladin of Souls~Awesome. But there is a book before this one that you should read. The Curse of Chalion. What a terrific book.

Doomsday Book~ I just recommended this one to a fellow blogger. That is a must read. Must. Time travel, sci/fi, plague, 1300's, chick is awesome, etc... It's absolutely riveting.
