Less Talking.....More Reading !

I just got a notice from Harper Collins that I was selected to review a book this month. GREAT! I love that.....EXCEPT I am WAY backed up on books that I need to review! I think I've decided I need to do a little less blog hopping and a LOT more reading!!

Here's my list of books I owe to Harper Collins: (I'm really bad, because I skipped over one of these to get to the Warren Ellis book!)

  • Along Comes a Stranger by Dorie Lawson (the daughter of renowned Biographer David McCollough)
  • Vivaldi's Virgins by Barbara Quick (historic fiction about the composer Antonio Vivaldi)
  • The Sound of Butterflies by Rachel King (debut novel from New Zealander. )

On top of those, I have some books I have promised to review for authors and Spotlight Publicity.

  • The Black Tea Experiments by Ray Atkinson( a small novel, almost novella. Thriller.)
  • Chance Murphey and the Battle of Morganville by Josh P. McClary (New author from a small Chicago based Publisher. About a boy growing up in the 80's).
  • The Quest of the Seal Bearers: Books One and Two by A. W. G. Coleman (fantasy tales)

Finally, I signed up to review for CurledUp.com. Great!! Except they sent me some books and I need to get on it!!

  • Marked: A House of Night Novel by P.C. and Kristin Cast (Teen Vampires!)
  • The Screaming Room by Thomas O'Callaghan (Serial killer Thriller)
  • The Last Nightingale: A Novel of Suspense by Anthony Flacco
  • Thunderstruck by Erik Larson
  • Goodbye Evilwood: The Murders in Tinseltown by Vladamir Chernozemsky

Later!! I've got to get some reviews done!!

What a coincidence. I was selected for The Sound of Butterflies as well! It will be interesting to compare our thoughts on it.

I have also contacted CurledUp.com about reviewing for them but have not heard anything, I'm not holding my breath.

:( I didn't get The Sound of Butterflies. Sounds like a great book though!

Damn girl! Get reading!

Just how exactly does one sign up to review new releases? And can you specify the genre?

Thanks for the comment at my place. I'd love to be added to your blogroll. I'll do the same.

I love getting ARCs but my problem is fitting them in with my personal reading. Not to mention that I don't want to stop visiting all my bloggy friends :)

Well, have fun with all of those. I really want to hear about Vivaldi's Virgins. Love Vivaldi's music.

Matt Cool!! I'm really looking forward to reading it. I wouldn't worry about CurledUp. It took them a few weeks to get back to me...and they are super nice! I'm sure you'll be there along with me!

Chris I'd be more than happy to send it to you when I'm done! Share the wealth, as they say! And yes....I'm reading right now!!

Petunia You can sign up at HarperCollins dot com for the First Look program. Every month they offer anywhere from 5 to 15 books of all different genres. Just sign up for the ones you want. They draw to see who gets them. It took me 3 months before I got anything. Since I've gotten 2 books almost every month. Definitely stick with it! Simon & Schuster also has a program, but you have to sign up at the end of the year.

Iliana That's my problem! I love getting ARC's too. It's fitting them in with all the other books I want to read. That's why I'm so backed up right now!

Lisa I still hang out with the Yahoo group. I read all the messages and post sometimes. I can't even SEE your blog anymore. Bad girl you made it private and FORGOT to invite ME!!

Valentina Thanks! I just checked out your blog too, and I'll be adding you to my blog roll as well! I read when I can!

Alright, you can stop blog hopping and start reading...after you come to my page first *snickers*

Sounds like you have your hands full though, it's nice in a way right? Happy reading and hope the stinkers are few!

Oh, and, if you review for the curledup site, are you not able to review the same book for the blog?

How did you come to read for Harper Collins? That must be so exciting, if not at times overwhelming. It's no fun when our favorite obsession becomes an obligation.

I'd be interested in what you think of Rachel King's book. She comes from an interesting and well known Kiwi family - Dad Michael King was one of our greatest historians, writing the most current complete history published not long before he died in a car accident. He also wrote an excellent biography of Janet Frame amongst other books. i do misss his perspective on things NZ. Rachel's brother Jonathan is a film maker.

I enjoyed the book, but was just reading for myself not a review (slightly different mindset I find :) )

I'm like Iliana - love the ARCs, but I have to limit how many I receive or I'll never get to any of the books on my shelf. Do you ever turn in First Look reviews after the due date? I never did, but I know people who drag their feet and don't review an ARC for months. That's probably part of my problem - if I get an ARC, I read it and review on time, period.
